I've been battling a migraine for a couple of days now, with it going back and forth between unbearable and letting me sort of function. It's driving me crazy. I have no idea what triggered it or what's keeping it going, but it is sucking the life out of me like a giant leech on my brain! (How's that for a mental image? Ew. You're welcome.) I've had migraines since I was a toddler, although officially diagnosed when I was in elementary school. They're genetic, so much fun.
The worst part about migraines, beyond the blinding pain, loss of peripheral vision, and the off and on nausea, is the soul-sucking exhaustion that comes with it. Being a hypoglycemic since I was a kid, and having some migraines triggered by dipping blood sugars, my brain keeps telling me that ice cream would help.
And really now, what affliction does ice cream not help, I ask you?
No, I haven't had any. But it sounds really, really good. I especially like the "no effort" food aspect of it all. Ice cream doesn't require much of anything. If you're a really lazy sort, you can just lay it against your tongue and let it melt while your eyes cross in chocolate mint bliss (or chocolate peanut butter. Or...)
All (mostly) joking aside, however, the no effort part is something I'd like to figure out. On days like these, I need something that requires little to no effort to prepare or to eat. And it needs to be quiet; a blender making a smoothie is my idea of torture, noise-wise. If it crunches, it's a no-go. Minus pudding (and that's not allowed), I can't come up with anything.
It's likely that food isn't the issue at all, it's simply that I want the pain and discomfort to go away and food is a self-comforting mechanism. Although, if there were something easy, healthy, and quiet I could eat, I'd be all for that... so it doesn't have to be unhealthy. It's just that I can't think of anything like that which isn't complete junk.
And really, doesn't that tell you something about our food supply? Healthy food is something you have to work for. It's hard to find in the store because it's being squeezed out by processed junk. I'm literally down to only really visiting two aisles in the store: the fresh produce, and the meat aisles. (Actually, I hit the frozen fruits and vegetables too, but that's it.) Healthy food takes time to prepare in most cases, unlike junk which is ready to go the moment the thought even occurs to you. Eating healthy food generally takes time (and facial muscles that you don't think about until you have a headache and movement becomes torture), whereas the processed stuff goes down so fast it's just one step shy of an IV.
Isn't that just astounding? All this extra work goes in to making the junk food, but it's less expensive than the healthy food where you have to put all that work in yourself.
...And I'm thinking too hard again. Time to go pop more Advil and lay in a dark room. But if anyone has an quiet, healthy food suggestions that are easy, let me know.
